PSA that a ship doesn’t have to have sex in order for it to be canon so quit with the “bryan fuller is queerbaiting” bullcrap kthxbye
“UGH WHO CARES ABOUT THESE OTHER CHARACTERS WHERES HANNIBAL ITS CALLED HANNIBAL FOR A REASON LIKE THATS ALL I WANT IS JUST HANNIBAL JEEZ"

Did you read the books? did you watch the films?? then you know that there are more characters other than hannibal fucking lecter.
get.
over.
that.
shit.
bruh.
I hate when people who hate hannibal CONTINUE to watch it and shit on it every single time like??? wtf do you get out of it?? why put yourself through something you dont even like. why spread negative comments about it (and yeah theres a difference in criticism and just fucking complaining about it)
do us all a favor andleave

I hate it when someone wants to make a post about fannibals, they seem to group us all together as if we all have opinion like no please don’t generalize all of us, it invalidates everything you said.
I don’t usually waste time with looking up posts like this and responding to them, but… It was brought to my attention and there are a few counter points I’d like to make, as a fan of both the TV show and the books/movies.
“I’m sorry that you like a show that might as well be written by a 12 year old fan girl, granted that’s probably what you are since you enjoy it.”
I’m 19 years old, almost 20, and was 18 when Hannibal started airing. Granted, I wasn’t even born when some of the books/movies came out, but I happen to love both Harris!verse and Fuller!verse, for various reasons.
If Hannibal hadn’t been made into the TV series, I wouldn’t have become interested in the original canon content. I wouldn’t even have knowledge of the books and movies, as family and friends around me aren’t interested in gore/horror/etc. It was recommended to me after seeing posts on both Twitter/Tumblr.
But going back to my first point, there’s really no need to bring age into it, making it seem like the only people watching it are immature.
“But I’m super not sorry that I actually give a fuck about the characters from Silence of the Lambs…
“The way they pick victims is different. Their interactions with others is different. Their knowledge of the world around them, their manner of holding themselves, speech patterns (and no I don’t mean that one ugly dude’s mush mouth. I just mean speech patterns. Y’know, shit that was consistent in the book and the movie (rare!) but once this dumbfuck got a hold of it that pattern disappeared), style of dress. Fucking everything about the character is different.”
The whole point of the show is to act as a prequel to Red Dragon. As is stated in every single episode, during the start up credits, it’s based on the characters from Red Dragon, not Silence of the Lambs. Hence why it delves into the relationship between Dr. Hannibal Lecter and special agent Will Graham.
That’s also why Alan Bloom and Freddy Lounds (from the books/movie) are gender bent to Alana Bloom and Freddie Lounds. That’s why Jack Crawford (originally white in Harris!verse) has been changed to a POC character; to give some goddamn variety, that is much needed.
Hannibal’s personality/actions are bound to be different to that in the books and movies, which comes after the show’s timeline: but even so, it’s an adaption, not a copy of the Harris!verse content. There’d be no point of an exact copy/rehash. Fuller is making his own version, and that should be obvious to anyone.
Regardless, I can still enjoy the show and give a fuck about Silence of the Lambs’ characters, at the same time.
“And because tumblr is full of retarded fan girl women…”
There’s no need for such offensive and ableist language. Why do you feel the need to insult the people who watch and enjoy the show, just because you don’t like it? To feel as if your opinion holds more relevance?
Insulting people for liking or enjoying something isn’t going to make them stop liking/enjoying/watching it.
“…The black task force leader isn’t reduced to an angry black man that screams at everyone like Jack Crawford in Hannibal…”
I’ve watched both the first and second seasons of the show, and as far as I’m aware, Jack Crawford doesn’t spend every single scene that he’s a part of, screaming his head off at other characters. He raises his voice a few times, when extremely frustrated, but even then, it’s more likely due to the fact he’s trying to catch the Chesapeake Ripper.
One example: in the dinner scenes he has with Hannibal, he doesn’t shout. He doesn’t raise his voice. He’s calm, in some of them, whilst in others, it shows he’s tired and weary, confiding in Hannibal as he believes they’re friends, unbeknownst to Jack that he’s in the company of the Ripper.
Another example: In other scenes with Bella Crawford, he doesn’t shout. He’s emotional, yes, but that’s because both he and his wife are trying to find ways to cope with the fact she has cancer.
If you’d watched the show past the first couple of episodes, then maybe you’d realize that your comment is invalid. How much of the show have you actually watched?
“…He is intelligent, tough, tactical, all that shit. We know why he has his job, they show him being good at what he does. On Hannibal every single person just gets a bunch of exposition regarding the fact that “Oh they’re super good at their job” but they never SHOW us them being super good at their job… “
Again, if you’d watched the whole of the first season, you’d see how invalid your comment is. The first season is a better example of how good the characters are at their jobs, as the second season is a shitstorm and more of a reaction to what happened at the end of the first.
Each episode of season one, more or less, is based on a case, (some of them tying together over two episodes), and usually by the end of it they’ve solved it, caught the killer.
Aww your poor wittle fee fees are hurtypoo?
I’m sorry that you value a show that makes such caricatures of races and genders. I’m sorry that you like a show that might as well be written by a 12 year old fan girl, granted that’s probably what you are since you enjoy it. Sorry your comprehension is at such a low grade level you tried to smart off and it super fucking backfired.
But I’m super not sorry that I actually give a fuck about the characters from Silence of the Lambs. I’m in no way apologetic in that I absolutely fucking hate that show and what it did to this fandom. These idiots wouldn’t know Hannibal Lecter out of a line up of random serial killers because the show is so vastly different the two characters are really only linked by name and the fact they eat their victims.
The way they pick victims is different. Fucking everything about the character is different, except oh he kills and eats people, and his name is Hannibal Lecter.
That isn’t how you make an adaption. There is a reason we scoff at 12 year old fanfiction writers. Because they suck ass at the characters. They don’t have a good grasp of the character and what the character is doing or thinking or how it acts. They just slap the name and top defining traits on it.
I can’t believe it got all the way to the air. And because tumblr is full of retarded fan girl women who will eat up anything that potentially has gay tones (nice fetishizing them gays. I’ll be sure to alert straight men that they can watch all the lesbo porn they desire.) it remained on the air. No one finds it odd the nbc Hannibal tumblr is so active? Really? You all are THAT stupid? Hell, they liked a scathing review I made back when the first season came out.
You actually like Hannibal Lecter? You wanna know what I suggest? The Blacklist. The Blacklist has a calm, collected, sarcastic murderer, who twists and manipulates people either for his betterment or for his amusement. He is cultured, refined, and extremely protective over the brown haired FBI agent with blue eyes that the connection between seems blurred on the father/daughter and romance line. The black task force leader isn’t reduced to an angry black man that screams at everyone like Jack Crawford in Hannibal. He is intelligent, tough, tactical, all that shit. We know why he has his job, they show him being good at what he does. On Hannibal every single person just gets a bunch of exposition regarding the fact that “Oh they’re super good at their job” but they never SHOW us them being super good at their job. Plucky Asian bitch ignores rules and rides the wave of dumb luck. Jack Crawford screams and never does actual work, if he is in the field he is standing there, staring around like a fucking idiot.
And you want some female representation? Good god, look at the Blacklist. Most of Red’s contacts aren’t white and they few that are are women of not common ages. Shit, the bosses over the specific task force assigned to Red have all been women, and right now it’s a black woman. There’s only one white dude that is good and that’s Russler, he’s one of the FBI agents. Everyone else is a woman, a different race, or both.
The plot is smart. You actually have to pay attention. I tried to play a video game during one episode and I found myself lost real quick and had to rewatch the whole fucking episode. Which is fantastic. That is how it should be. You should actually have to be invested to figure out what is happening in the world of the characters you’re watching.
So stop watching one of the worst programs to hit the airwaves, and start watching one of the best. There’s a reason it took a petition or some shit to keep that Hannibal show on the air while the Blacklist has won awards, got budget increases, and got the fucking prime time post Superbowl slot.
“…Plucky Asian bitch ignores rules and rides the wave of dumb luck. Jack Crawford screams and never does actual work, if he is in the field he is standing there, staring around like a fucking idiot.”
“Plucky Asian bitch”? Do you mean Beverly Katz? Because, if so, nice* racist, derogatory, and sexist comment you posted there.
Jack Crawford is the head of the behavioural science unit. He’s not there to consult on the case. That’s Will Graham’s job, as a special agent/empath. That’s Katz’s, Price’s and Zeller’s job, as the science team, analysts over the evidence. Jack Crawford is there to oversee it.

I’ve noticed in this answer to your (probably not unfounded nor irrelveant opinion) of an anon, that you’ve focused on bashing two of the POC characters, who were both strong, important, and relevant to the show.
By all means, promote the shows you love, aim to get others to watch them. That’s fantastic, and a totally important thing to do, but there’s no legitimate reason to drag other shows down in the process.
By doing what you’ve done, in the way you’ve done it, people are going to be less inclined to want to watch the shows you’re promoting. Some are going to think: Oh. Is that the sort of attitude against POC (and more so, POC female) characters the show(s) you’re watching actively encourages and promotes?
Probably not, but one does start to wonder.
*not nice. I was being sarcastic. Just FYI.
