Can I ask why it’s so important for us to win this contest?

There are several aspects to this answer, but most of them boil down to –

Renewal for Season 4.

Last year, we won this poll. Bryan has told us that this win was actually influential in pushing NBC to renew us for season 3. It let them know that people are watching this show, people are eager for it, and there’s an audience in place and ready to go should they decide to make more Hannibal. And sure enough, the announcement followed not too long after our win.

It would make even more of a statement to them if we won this year, not in the midst of a season, but deeply, deeply, into a long empty hiatus. Winning this poll is basically us knocking on NBC’s door and saying, LOOK, WE’RE STILL HERE, WE’RE STILL FIGHTING, WE’RE THINKING ABOUT HANNIBAL, ARE YOU? And we need every push like that we can get.

Secondly, it creates traffic as we head closer to season 3. Right now, everyone who is voting is seeing Hannibal’s name. People are asking, what’s that show? It’s winning all these rounds, it must be good. That will be even more magnified if we won. People who haven’t seen it will see it on Hulu’s homepage and think, maybe I should watch. People who have seen it, will remember it and think, oh yes, I loved that show, I should tune in. And this will increase viewership in season 3. We also need that, that also leads us back to renewal for season 4.

Hulu is a major site, with a good reputation and a lot of traffic. We need that kind of exposure. Our renewal is so up in the air, it’s not even the slightest bit funny, and this we can control. This win is up to us.

And finally, for ourselves. It’s been a long hard hiatus, and people have drifted and people’s fire has dimmed, but it would be nice to have a victory like this and all pull together again.
